Art and craft workshops

Miriam’s experience of running art workshops spans many years, and all age ranges and abilities. Her open, friendly, and inspirational style means that she can engage with all the attendees so that each gets the best out of the time available.

Miriam has experience in working with service users in:

  • Probation approved premises
  • Children in SEMH schools
  • The elderly in care homes.

Miriam undertakes therapeutic art and craft based drop-in workshops at approved premises in Leeds.

Approved premises are utilised to manage some individuals who are released from custody. Their stay is for approximately 12 weeks and during this time the hostel plays a pivotal role in monitoring and managing the risk of their residents. However, they also provide key workers to assist with emotional support as well as a programme of purposeful activity all of which is intended to help with reducing re offending and positive reintegration into society.

Miriam provides one on one art and craft therapeutic sessions with students in SEMH school settings in West Yorkshire.

This school is a ‘special academy’. The children that attend have social, emotional, and mental health needs together with special education needs. These children/young people have severe difficulties in managing their emotions and behaviour. Miriam provides one on one therapeutic art tuition for selected students that would benefit from a safe space to settle their mood and learn something new, this interaction gives them a feeling of calm and wellbeing.

Art club workshops

Miriam is an in-demand speaker and visitor to art clubs throughout the region, she is recognised as being an inspirational teacher and frequently holds art workshops across the Yorkshire region. Miriam provides a unique opportunity for people to fulfil their artistic aspirations.

She facilitates art workshops centred on her artistic practise. Miriam covers the areas of, drawing, painting, and mixed media techniques. Miriam also offers printmaking workshops.

Art demonstrations

Miriam offers painting demonstrations, lasting one or two hours. Her main subject matter is landscapes and natural forms.

Miriam’s style of drawing is spontaneous, as most of the painting is created in front of the viewer rather than prepared beforehand. She builds a rapport with her audience, encouraging questions and comments from them. This adds a relaxed participatory element to the whole occasion.
